Just as you wouldn’t drive your car without ensuring that you change the oil regularly and add air to the tires, you need to ensure that your furnace works most efficiently by giving it a little TLC. One way to do that is to conduct regular preventive maintenance for furnace blowers. When your furnace blower isn’t working correctly, it can cause the rest of the furnace to operate inefficiently, thereby decreasing its output and increasing your heating costs.
Preventive maintenance for furnace blowers should be done by a qualified HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) professional. Of all the pieces of the furnace, the blower tends to need repair and replacement most often, and is the true workhorse of the furnace system. By having a professional check your blower regularly, and make repairs and replacements as necessary, you may help to avoid a furnace breakdown and costly replacement. Additionally, some manufacturers won’t honor your furnace’s warranty if you perform the work yourself, but rather require that a certified professional do it.
One simply thing that you can do to extend the life of your blower is to check your furnace filter regularly for dirt and grime. You then can clean it with a damp rag, or you can use a vacuum to remove dust.
Blowers are made up of a number of smaller components, any of which could fail and cause the blower to stop working, including the blower frames, blower wheels and blower motors. Additionally, the blower housing also can deteriorate over time.
To save yourself on replacement costs and other repairs, you can avoid the problem by scheduling preventive maintenance for furnace blowers. If you live in the Northern Virginia or Maryland area, contact Modern Mechanical. We’re happy to help with all of your heating and air conditioning needs.
